Crispy Air Fried Home Fries
We recently upgraded our toaster oven after the old one died a long, slow death. We use our toaster oven a LOT in place of our main oven because it heats up more quickly and uses less energy. So we decided to splurge a little and opted for this toaster oven with a billion settings. Before we bought the new oven, I had been coming across recipes that involved air frying. Our new purchase happens to have that setting, so we’ve been on an air frying rampage.
The reasons I love this cooking method so much are:
It’s quick
It’s less messy than frying
It makes foods taste deep fried and crispy without the excess oil and calories
This potato recipe is the one we use most often. It’s SO easy and can be used for pretty much any meal. I’m not even sure I would really classify this as a recipe - it’s more of a cooking technique, but I’ll break down the steps for you anyway.
Wash and cube potatoes - I used a mix of red and gold potatoes because they needed to be used, but any kind will work.
2. Boil potatoes until tender (about 5-6 minutes). You can skip this step and just air fry longer, but I think it adds good moisture to the inside of the potatoes and they take less time in the air fryer.
3. Pre-heat air fryer to 400 degrees and remove all other racks from the oven.
4. Drain potatoes and toss with oil in a bowl. Do not use more oil than called for, you want to avoid as much dripping in the oven as possible. Spoon onto the air fry tray. (Tip: Since the tray is full of holes, keep another pan under it to avoid oil dripping all over your kitchen)
5. Place tray in the oven and cook for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
6. Remove from oven, toss with salt and pepper to taste and serve with your favorite dish!
